Which marketplaces, integrations and trust platforms B2B SaaS actually builds for

We crawled the homepages, sitemaps, /integrations directories and /security portals of 479 YC-backed B2B software companies against a pre-registered dictionary of 47 named ecosystems, 6 review directories and 8 trust-center platforms — then crossed the results with our pricing-transparency and comparison-page datasets on the same 479 companies.

Crawled October 2026 across 479 YC-backed B2B software companies. Pre-registered protocol: docs/plans/s8-ecosystem-marketplace-protocol.md. Precision on a 50-record random sample: 98.0% (49/50).

Executive summary

Emerging B2B software teams are constantly told to list in dozens of directories, app marketplaces and partner ecosystems. Across the 479 YC-backed B2B software companies in our frame, actual engineering and marketing effort concentrates tightly: 252 companies (52.6%, 95% CI 48.1-57.0%) publish an integration hub or dedicated integration pages, and 222 (46.3%, 95% CI 41.9-50.8%) connect to at least one of the 47 named ecosystems we tracked.

Three empirical rules govern where companies list first. First, five horizontal ecosystems form the default B2B stack: Slack (24.0%), Salesforce / AppExchange (17.3%), Google Workspace (15.2%), HubSpot App Marketplace (15.2%), and Zapier (14.0%), followed by Microsoft Teams / 365 (13.8%) and Jira / Atlassian (12.5%). Second, ecosystem entry follows strict sequencing rules: 92.4% of companies that integrate with Microsoft Teams (61 of 66) also integrate with Slack, and 78.1% of companies that integrate with HubSpot (57 of 73) also integrate with Salesforce. Third, pricing model and company scale dictate which marketplaces matter: per-seat SaaS tools lead in Zapier (28.6%), Salesforce (27.0%) and G2 badge adoption (20.6%), whereas contact-only enterprise vendors skip Zapier (12.2%) and build for Salesforce (23.5%) and Workday (11.3%).

On first-party marketing and security pages, compliance proof outweighs review-site badges by more than three to one: 45.7% (219 companies) state SOC 2 compliance and 53.2% (255) state at least one compliance framework (with Vanta powering 35 of 48 detected third-party trust-center portals), while only 12.9% (62 companies) link to or embed a G2 badge and 3.3% (16) link to Product Hunt.

Six findings for founders and GTM teams

01

Slack is the #1 integration across B2B SaaS

115 of 479 companies (24.0%) ship a Slack integration or app — ahead of Salesforce (17.3%), HubSpot (15.2%), Google Workspace (15.2%) and Zapier (14.0%). At 200+ employees, Slack adoption reaches 56.1%.

02

Nobody builds for MS Teams before Slack

Of the 66 companies with a Microsoft Teams / 365 integration, 61 (92.4%) also have Slack. Nearly half of Slack integrators (54 of 115) have not built for Teams. Slack is the entry ticket; Teams is the upmarket follow-on.

03

Zapier leads automation 4x; n8n edges ahead of Make

Among workflow automation marketplaces, Zapier leads at 14.0% (67 companies). In this YC-heavy B2B cohort, n8n (3.5%, 17 companies) slightly edges out Make (3.3%, 16), followed by Workato (1.5%), Pipedream (0.8%) and Tray.io (0.4%).

04

Salesforce and Okta are scale-stage inflection points

Named ecosystem presence rises from 33.3% at 1-10 employees to 73.2% at 200+ (permutation p=0.0000). Salesforce jumps 4.2x (10.9% to 46.3%) and Okta/Auth0 jumps 3.4x (7.8% to 26.8%) at the 200-employee mark.

05

Pricing model predicts marketplace strategy

Crossing with Study 1: per-seat SaaS is the most integration-dense model (68.3% named ecosystem rate; 28.6% Zapier; 27.0% Salesforce). Contact-only enterprise SaaS drops Zapier (12.2%) and over-indexes on Workday (11.3% vs 2.0% in usage-based SaaS).

06

SOC 2 + Vanta beat G2 badges 3.5 to 1 on vendor sites

45.7% of companies highlight SOC 2 on their homepage or security portal, versus 12.9% linking to G2, 3.3% to Product Hunt and 3.1% to Capterra. Among detected trust-center vendors, Vanta holds 72.9% (35 of 48 companies).

Why cloud marketplaces (AWS, Azure, GCP) show low marketing-site link rates (1.7%) despite high enterprise importance. Unlike Slack, Zapier or HubSpot—which serve as self-serve discovery and activation channels linked from /integrations—cloud marketplace listings are primarily used by enterprise sales teams to draw down a buyer's committed cloud spend during procurement. Most vendors do not route self-serve website visitors to AWS Marketplace unless the buyer is already in an enterprise deal cycle.

How company size, pricing model and comparison strategy shape the stack

Because this study uses the exact same 479-company frame as our Pricing Transparency (S1) and Comparison Page (S3) studies, we can cross-tabulate ecosystem investment against company scale, pricing architecture, and competitive publishing.

1. By company size: the day-one stack vs the 200-employee stack

Share of companies connecting to at least one named ecosystem, by team size (with 95% CI)
0%20%40%60%80%100%1-10 employees33.3%n=12911-50 employees43.7%n=19051-200 employees55.0%n=111200+ employees73.2%n=41
Ecosystem connectivity more than doubles from 33.3% at 1-10 employees to 73.2% at 200+ employees (two-sided permutation p=0.0000).
Team size bandAny named ecoIntegration hubSlackZapierSalesforceOkta / Auth0SOC 2G2 badge

200+ employees (n=41)73.2%70.7%56.1%22.0%46.3%26.8%63.4%26.8%

The size table separates early-stage defaults from upmarket procurement gates. At 1-10 employees, Slack (17.1%) and Salesforce (10.9%) are the only individual ecosystems above 10%. At 51-200 employees, Zapier surges to 26.1% as mid-market teams automate self-serve onboarding. At 200+ employees, enterprise IT and revenue systems take over: Slack hits 56.1%, Salesforce hits 46.3%, Okta/Auth0 jumps from 5.4% to 26.8%, and G2 badge display reaches 26.8%.

2. Crossed with Study 1: Pricing transparency & billing basis

Three structural patterns stand out when crossing S8 with S1:

  • Per-seat SaaS (n=63) is the most ecosystem-dependent business model in B2B software: 68.3% connect to named ecosystems, led by Zapier (28.6%), Salesforce (27.0%), and the highest G2 badge rate (20.6%). Per-seat tools must embed into the buyer's daily workflow to justify seat expansion.
  • Contact-only enterprise SaaS (n=115) builds for systems of record, not iPaaS: Contact-only vendors integrate with Salesforce (23.5%) and have the highest Workday rate in the sample (11.3%), but use Zapier at less than half the rate of per-seat tools (12.2% vs 28.6%).
  • Usage-based SaaS (n=50 — APIs, infra, developer platforms) leads on security, skips review badges: Usage-priced vendors have the highest SOC 2 rate (58.0%) and high Okta/Auth0 adoption (16.0%), but only 6.0% display a G2 badge on their website.

3. Crossed with Study 3: Integration libraries vs comparison libraries

Companies that publish competitor comparison pages are 2.8x as likely to integrate with named ecosystems (83.1% vs 29.9%) and maintain a median of 27.5 dedicated integration pages across the 144 companies with structured /integrations/<slug> URLs. Integration directories and comparison libraries are the twin programmatic acquisition surfaces of scaling B2B SaaS.

Classification discipline: Named ecosystems were matched via four hierarchy levels recorded per match: (1) outbound link to the canonical marketplace domain (e.g., zapier.com/apps, appexchange.salesforce.com, chromewebstore.google.com), (2) dedicated first-party integration URL slug (e.g., /integrations/slack), (3) word-bounded integration/connector/SSO documentation slug, or (4) visible body listing on a verified /integrations hub page (after stripping <head>, <script>, <style>, <nav>, and <footer> so error-monitoring SDKs like Sentry or Datadog and social links like GitHub are never miscounted as product integrations). Ambiguous single-word vendor names (make, front, linear, segment, gong, outreach, zoom, notion, tray) were restricted to dedicated integration slugs and canonical domains.

Precision audit: A deterministic random sample of 50 matched company-ecosystem pairs (seed=42, saved in data/research/s8/audit-sample-50.json) was manually audited against the evidence URLs: 49 of 50 (98.0%) were verified first-party integrations (1 false positive: a third-party blog article about another vendor's HubSpot integration).

Downloadable datasets: ecosystems.csv (all 47 named ecosystems with counts, CIs, and segment breakdowns) and companies-ecosystem.csv (all 479 companies).

What this study does not show

  • Third-party directory stubs without first-party links. We measure integrations, marketplace links, review badges and trust portals surfaced on each company's own domain and sitemap. A company listed on G2, AppExchange or AWS Marketplace that never links to or documents that listing on its own site is not counted here.
  • Client-side-only integration directories. If a company renders its /integrations catalog exclusively via client-side XHR without server-rendered HTML or sitemap URLs, individual cards may be missed.
  • YC-backed cohort scope. All 479 companies come from the Y Combinator B2B software dataset; developer and AI-native tools are more common here than in legacy mid-market software.
About this study. Crawled October 2026 across 479 YC-backed B2B software companies; 1,571 company-ecosystem connections classified across 47 named platforms, crossed with Study S1 (Pricing Transparency) and Study S3 (Comparison Page Map).
